Partnering for Better Early Childhood Data

Conference: IDIO 2024
Date: August 29, 2024
Presenters: Howard Morrison, Ginger Elliott-Teague, Tony Ruggiero, Leah Piatt, Lisa Davenport (Utah)

In this session, presenters shared the value of an ECIDS (early childhood integrated data system) to IDEA programs, whether your state operates one, and when and how to become an active partner. Utah shared its approach and the process for including Part C data. Understanding the broad early childhood ecosystem serving children from birth through preschool—and where children with disabilities sit within it—is becoming increasingly important. Access to data can significantly impact child find outcomes, for example, since some questions can only be answered using data from other programs (such as whether children in Head Start identified with disabilities are receiving early intervention or early childhood special education services). Other topics discussed include advocating for your program data needs while mitigating risks (including data privacy). Presenters shared key resources that connect to the content for states to use throughout the session.
