This presentation described background information on children born at low birth weight and/or prematurely, state eligibility policies around low birth weight and prematurity, and the DEC position statement on these conditions. Attendees worked in small groups to discuss their state eligibility policies, what barriers exist in enrolling children born LBW/prematurely into EI, and how relationships with other organizations may be able to facilitate enrollment. The presentation concluded with a description of a study conducted in Oregon and Washington that tracked the enrollment status of children referred to EI from a high-risk infant follow up clinic.
