Looker Studio Video Tutorial Series

Purpose of Series

Through this 5-part video tutorial series, you will become more familiar with Looker Studio (formerly known as Google Data Studio), a free online data visualization platform that makes reports easier to create and understand. While the information is introductory in nature, it can still be used to help you develop multi-faceted online reports with custom data visualizations and interactive features for sharing publicly with stakeholders (e.g., to fulfill IDEA public reporting requirements).

Structure and Learning Objectives

Part 1: Overview of Looker Studio (~8 minutes)

  • Gain an understanding of the basics of Looker Studio, such as the purpose of the main features and how to navigate the tool.
  • Describe how Looker Studio can be used by IDEA Part C and Part B 619 programs to publicly share data in meaningful ways.

Part 2: Getting Started with Building a Report (~11 minutes)

  • Describe the basic workflow for creating and updating reports using Looker Studio.
  • Gain an understanding of how to begin creating a report with simple visualizations.

Part 3: Editing a Data Source (~6 minutes)

  • Gain an understanding of how to edit and configure data sources for a report.
    Identify how to add and/or change report design elements.

Part 4: Adding Controls to a Report and Finalizing it for Sharing (~9 minutes)

  • Identify the purpose of report controls.
  • Identify uses for common useful report controls.
  • Demonstrate how to add controls to a report.
  • Gain an understanding of how to finalize and share a report.

Part 5: Building Public Dashboards (AZ Part C Demonstration; ~28 minutes)

  • Gain an understanding of how to combine reports to create dashboards that can be shared publicly.
  • Identify how to update public reports over time.
