The Ethics of Visualizing Data on Race

Data visualization experts discuss the ethical uses of racial data, including considerations for computing averages, disaggregating data across multiple factors, using discretion in reporting certain data, and democratizing data use among diverse stakeholders. The webinar also covers how dismantling systemic racism can be operationalized in data visualization tools and design processes. Discussants cover specific resources, including the We All Count Methodology Matrix and the Urban Institute’s Data Visualization Style Guide.

Part C and Part B 619 staff can use this content to rethink their data visualization processes and tools in order to support racial equity.
